Short Poetry Collection re: 'First Day of Work'

i folded boxes
sometimes a box would be slightly bent
i sometimes thought, “this box is slightly bent”

i drove my car / delivered pizza
it was raining hard, and some of the addresses
were hard to see

i mostly listened to old mountain goats songs

i think there is a line in one where he says,
“i wanted you to love me like you used to do”

i felt a ‘surge’ of nostalgia, i think,
and smelled pizza and felt nothing
again

i ‘stocked’ ‘the fridge’
i put an assortment of pepsi and coke products
into four refrigerators

i sometimes bumped my hand on other bottles
and they fell

i picked them up

i remember thinking something like, “one liter bottles seem awkward”,
and then putting warm lipton brand unsweetened iced tea
in the back of the fridge

i swept the floor
it seemed hard to differentiate between sweepable ‘dust’
and the floor

i think i just moved the broom around a little

i mopped the floor
used ‘soapy water’ and a mop

i thought “squid” ~6-8 times
because of the motion / look of the mop’s ‘tentacles’

i ate BBQ tempeh w/ red peppers and onions
i ate it cold while i was delivering pizza
it tasted good but i think i like it better warm

how do you guys like your tempeh?

i want new recipes

$$$
was under the impression i would get paid ‘nightly’ ‘in cash’
but found out ‘payday’ is friday

i made $25 in tips, and $35 for the ‘work wage’

made $60 in ~5 hrs

all cash, bitches.

'What is a Fulfilling Pursuit'

i just clicked on microsoft word
i am typing a poem
i just touched my face
i keep playing with my leg hair
i just drank water
i am chewing an ice cube
i just looked around for a couple of seconds
i feel nothing
there is a clock in the shape of a drumset near me
there are pens
my grandma’s e-mail address is written on a piece of paper
my eyes feel wide
i am playing with the slight leg hair under my thigh
i am twisting it then pulling it, sort of
should i listen to music
i just scratched my head
anything plus anything is still zero
the sky seems grey
i just signed onto gmail chat
i am ‘invisible’
i have a twitter
i have a blog
i have a youtube account
i have a flickr account
i have a goodreads account
anybody who is reading this and is thinking ‘what is the point of this’ probably has a more fulfilling life than i do
i am wearing puma brand socks
i am not wearing a t-shirt
is anyone excited by this

i am wearing shorts that say 'solon lacrosse' on them

Bubble Trouble

D.I.T Fest Review

'comprehensive list' of all of the 'acts' @dit fest.

Day One

Zax Kelly - seemed to have a low voice and songs w/ ~4 or 5 choruses. played a song w/ andy cook that seemed sweet. "making friends w/ the moon"

Gabz Ciofani - poet. 'highly political'. seemed to pronunciate things in an out of control manner. said some funny/sweet things, i feel.

Adam Klopp - really good voice. seemed to have a 'choir-y' voice. seemed sweet.

Ancestors - courtney and i. seemed to 'go over' well. felt mostly good while playing / out of control due to microphones.

Ben Ryant - poet. seemed like he only read three poems or something. said something about starbucks and used the phrase "sultry bitch" i think.

Gabe Wolf - seemed to play 'forever'. felt slightly uncomfortable or something re: lyrics and voice. kept feeling like 'this has to be his last song'. maybe was 'just' nervous about reading, causing negative feelings towards him or something. seems nice 'as a person'.

Me - poet. seemed to 'go over' well. resulted in self-confidence levels 'shooting up'. people laughed and seemed to 'get it'. felt so sweet.

General Ledger - 'love' brett. didn't see all of his songs. played a new song. seems like he always feels like quitting music. hope he doesn't.

Toby Foster - used my guitar. didn't see all of his songs. liked what i heard a lot. seems like a sweet bro. have feelings of wishing i knew him better, or something.

Nicholas Megalis - seems crazy. unsure if it is 'legitimate craziness' or if it is 'just' 'for show'. seems to have a good voice and catchy songs. has been on mtv's "real world" before. seems entertaining and nice.

Ryan Eilbeck - poet. had 'no idea' what to expect. 'love' ryan 'as a person' and felt generally positive re: his poetry. laughed out loud ~3 times while he was reading. seems like i would like to read his poetry.

Richard Wehrenberg jr. - poet. 'love' richard. seemed to 'only love his poetry more' after watching him read. am putting out a 'split' book of poetry with him in the near future. seems so sweet. he is maybe 'a huge reason why' i write poetry or something. feel like he has been a 'good influence' on me. met him at a show ~2 years ago, where he asked me for some chips i was eating and if there was dairy in it. felt an intense 'urge' to live with him today or something.

Little Girl - poet. seemed 'surreal'. read ~4 poems and threw candy to people after she finished. made me feel [a lot of things], or something. 'loved' this. sweet suprise.

Letters to the Moon - didn't see all of their songs. i like them. seems like i go through 'phases' of listening to them a lot then not listening to them at all. seemed to play well.

Matt Whispers - watched one poem i think, then left. i like his poetry. has some zines called "effigy" that i like.

American War - didn't stay for him. 'love' matt. drinks iced soy lattes and has 'the voice of an angel'.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------

Day Two

The Ghost of Asa Phelps - reminded me of the gaslight anthem a lot. seemed fine.

Ashley Brooke Toussant - seemed 'cutesy'. felt preoccupied the whole time i was watching her i think. sounded sweet, i feel.

Two Hand Fools - 'love' them. seemed to play really well. feel like i can hardly remember watching them or something. sweet bros.

Playoff Beard - feel like i didn't watch them. 'no idea'..

Signals Midwest - played really well. seems like i always feel momentarily confused @the end of one of their new songs re: time signature or something. maybe it is the intro. sweet bros. 'love' them 'as people' and 'as a band'.

Destroy Nate Allen - seemed like a 'kids band'. played in the middle of a circle of people. felt nervous and terrified because of them singing in my face. went to the back and listened w. mallory and ryan woods. seemed nice 'as people' when i met them later.

Higher Fives - watched some of them. Matt (singer) sang really well i feel. i like their songs. they are members of the beagle club.

Positive - ziggy, steve, ty, and i. seemed to play alright. felt good while playing / kindof confused re: guitar strap length during some parts.

Dustin and the Furniture - like dustin. seemed to play really well. felt calm while watching him. 'love' his song "tippy toe". seemed to 'bash' certain lifestyles or something at times. like him a lot 'nontheless'.

Saintseneca - didn't see all of their songs. sounded good, i feel. have 'no clue' re: content of their songs. someone asked me if they were a 'christian band'.

Busman's Holiday - didn't watch them. feel like they didn't play. maybe they didn't play.

Reverse The Curse - 'badass'. was lying down most of the time they played. seemed to sound sweet. seem 'so cool' most of the time.

Cleveland Undercovers - have a 'rule' about not being allowed to play sober, or something. played in their underwear after an 'epic entrance'. felt so fun.

Bethesda - didn't watch them. i think i was in the basement w/ mallory. they are maybe indie?

These Aren't Candles - ex. nta and disaster march. seemed good. didn't watch much of them.

The Menzingers - seemed to have 'initial negative feelings' towards them re: "sounding like 'every other' fla. 'org core' band", but now feel better about them. seemed to feel good while listening to them.

The Sidekicks - 'love' them. have been my 'favorite' band for extended periods of time. seem to be getting 'so big'. often feel 'amazed' w/ them. just released a new cd.

(did not stay for any of the following bands, but will review them 'in general' as i know them from previous occasions)

Underdogs of Nipomo - seem really nice and friendly. have a 'secret handshake' w/ andy where we 'chest bump' with our arms out (like christ) and hold it there for ~6 seconds.

Amelia - seems like i do not have any 'concrete' idea of what they sound like. feel like i have seen their singer a lot recently. i remember liking them @berea fest. singer seems cute and nice.

Endless Mike and the Beagle Club - i want to see them play ~6-7 times per year, i feel. 'love' them. seem very nice and smart. 'hung out' w/ them @the kent stage a while ago and felt comfortable. 'one of my favorite bands' maybe.

Delay - 'love' them. high energy pop-punk. remember getting a voicemail from ryan ~1 and 1/2 years ago about playing a show w/ them @a church and 'freaked out'. seem 'genuine' and very nice. seems like they do a lot of good things in columbus. 'love' them 'as people'.

No Target Audience - now 'defunct' i think. 'love(d?)' them.
